The Moravian Church bell tower in the village of Quinhagak, Alaska stands in a field making the perfect area for playing by the Yu'pik Eskimo children. The Yupik are a group of aboriginal people of western, southwestern and southcentral Alaska and the Russian Far East and are all related to the Inuit.
When the children are not playing, little girls are being taught how to sew, cook and weave by the women and the boys are learning how to survive, hunt and make their own tools and kayaks. For about three to six weeks during the winter, the children switch places and are taught what the other ones have learned.
