A mass of bright pink flowers create the ideal feeding grounds for a White-lined Sphinx Hummingbird Moth using his long feeding tube for sucking out the nectar. The feeding tube on this particular species of moth can reach a length of 10 inches and as the moth is feeding, it can pollinate the flowers at the same time.
The moth lives up to its name as it hovers above the flowers, similar to the same movements of a hummingbird. It can quickly change its flight pattern which is very helpful when finding the right flower full of nectar and when danger is lurking nearby.
The colors of the White-lined Sphinx Hummingbird Moth are brown and white with pinkish hues and a dark brown outline on the upperside of the hind wings. A common type of moth which is found in Central America through to Mexico, the West Indies and most regions of the United States as well as southern Canada.
