In this close up picture of the Western Columbine, one can see the true colors which explode from this colorful flower growing wild in the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska, USA. Stout, straight red spurs adorn the outside of this flower while red sepals and yellow petals create the center of this showy flower.
Being the largest flower of the three types of Columbines, it grows to a height of 2 - 3 feet when fully matured. The Western Columbine has a short life span which returns every spring and summer to show off its beautiful colors. Found along the forest edges and roadside ditches, the Western Columbine adds a beautiful display of color to any landscape, whether found in the wilderness of Alaska or blossoming in a garden.
