The alpine tundra at Thompson Pass near the Richardson Highway in Alaska, USA comes to life in vibrant colors when the Wedge-leaf Primrose blooms. As the broad basal rosette leaves grow to an egg-shaped and lay a base on the alpine tundra, the flowers emerge showing off their pink petals and yellow centers.
The Wedge-leaf Primrose is a fibrous rooted perennial which grows to be about 2-20 centimeters tall with no stem in sight. The flower petals are about 1-2 centimeters wide when in full bloom and Thompson Pass seems to be an area where they flourish in the alpine tundra.
There is an abundance of flora which grows throughout the alpine tundra of Thompson Pass at around 2700 feet and many which hike through the hills during the spring and summer found various species.
