Wave Surfing Coastal Shores Maui Hawaii

A man spends the day surfing on the water off the coastal shores of Maui, Hawaii where he gets tubed in a wave which has formed over him as he makes his way towards the shore.

Surfing is a common water activity off the coastal shores of Maui, Hawaii, but the beauty in this picture is how the surfer gets tubed in a wave. The swells off Maui are created from the wind and the shape is determined by the formation of the seabed or the contours of the reefs or sand banks. The ideal conditions for surfing require a light to moderate offshore wind which blows in front of the wave making it tube like in this picture.

Surfing requires a fair amount of practice before attempting a wave such as this one. While riding down the wave, the speed is increased as this man rides along the face of the breaking wave. Lessons for those wanting to attempt surfing are available while visiting Maui, Hawaii which has become a well known location for this sport.
