As spring arrives in Vancouver, Canada, the rose garden at the University of British Columbia (UBC) comes to life in an array of color as the rose bushes begin to flower. An elderly couple stroll around the garden taking pictures of the new blossoms.
The first rose garden at the University of British Columbia was established in 1949 and remained open until 1995. The construction of the Chan Centre started, destroying the rose garden but by 1997, a stunning new garden was put in place.
Designed by Perry & Associates, most of the bushes are hybrid tea and floribunda roses. Students at the university will come here to enjoy the fragrance when the garden is full bloom and the scenery while studying or eating their lunch.
The gardens are well cared for and visitors can enjoy a beautiful scenic view of the North Shore mountains and the Strait of Georgia, making the University of British Columbia rose garden a popular tourist attraction. The rose garden is located at the intersection of Crescent Road and Main Mall on the university endowment grounds below Flag Plaza. The rose garden sits on top of a parking garage of the Chan Centre and other popular places on the north edge of UBC.
