The bright green background of the tall grasses growing in the tidal influenced wetlands in the Eklutna Flats in Alaska, USA shows off the pink and purple hues of two blossoming wildflowers. These two species of wildflowers are known as an Iris and a Shooting Star, the purple one being the Iris.
The Shooting Star wildflowers will grow to be between 5 and 40 centimeters tall, blossoming from April to August with a cluster of pink flowers. Each plant has a cluster of between 1 and 25 flowers when blossoming with 5 pink lobes which are swept backwards.
The Iris thrives in the wetlands of Alaska, USA where they prefer cooler climates for the blossoming flowers to reach their maximum beauty. Growing to around 60 centimeters in height, the Iris flowers have very distinctive petals which open in a downward slope on the top of a tall, slender stem surrounded by long, slender leaves.
Both of these species of wildflowers decorate the landscape of the Eklutna Flats during the spring along with many other types of plants and flowers.
