Two Polar Bear cubs have made their way to the beach on the North Slope in Alaska, USA where they have found a recently harvested Bowhead whale. The two cubs take a break from feeding and stand on their hind legs peering over the top of some of the remains of the Bowhead Whale.
These Polar Bear cubs are waiting for the area of the North Slope to completely freeze over to be able to feed on Ringed Seals but will suffice their appetite in the meantime on this Bowhead Whale. The longer the remains of the Bowhead Whale stays on the beach, the stronger the odor becomes attracting various species of wildlife.
The subsistence harvest from the native villages happens during the fall and the number of bears on the beach seems to be increasing each year. During the evening hours, the noise of chomping jaws coming from a group of Polar Bears or Brown Bears feeding on the whale is an eerie sound. There are about 2,300 Polar Bears who roam the Alaska and Canadian areas around the Beaufort Sea and as the climate changes, more bears seem to be spend their days feeding on whale carcasses.
The Alaska North slope is situated along the coastal regions of the Chukchi Sea and the Beaufort Sea where there are many Eskimo villages which believe their culture and traditions involve that of killing whales.
