Two Alaskan fishing vessels heading northbound decide to stop nearer to the icebergs to get a close up view while traveling through Tracy Arm in Alaska, USA. Tracy Arm is about 45 minutes south of Juneau, Alaska and the natural beauty surrounding the area consists of icebergs, mountains, wildlife, glaciers and picturesque waterfalls.
During the summer months as commercial fishing vessels head out into Tracy Arm, the icebergs have melted considerably as the climate has warmed up. Many of the icebergs have calved off the face of Sawyer Glacier, situated at the end of the fjord, and over the years, people have found Tracy Arm to be one of the best places to see them.
Danger is very real when approaching icebergs too close as a large chunk of ice can easily break off at any given time causing quite a show and disturbance in the water.
Not only can the fishing vessels view the icebergs but cruises are available which gives tourists a chance to admire the beauty of them as well. Other things to seek out while viewing the icebergs in Tracy Arm is the variety of marine mammals like the different species of whales and seals.
