These three intriguing looking jellyfish are referred to as a Pacific Sea Nettle or a West Coast Sea Nettle and are found mainly in the Pacific Ocean along the coastline from California to Alaska. The jellyfish are seen in clusters more often during the fall and winter months where they seem to stay within a close proximity of the shore.
The jellyfish has golden brown colored bells reaching up to 3 feet in diameter, whitish colored oral arms and 24 thin maroon tentacles which trail behind the jellyfish between 12 to 15 feet. Always floating about and usually against the current, this jellyfish can give off a painful sting if one touches the tentacles.
The jellyfish feed on different species of fish, microscopic animals and other jellyfish and they are the prey of many animals, their worst fear being the Ocean Sunfish and Sea Turtles. Many of these golden yellow colored jellyfish can be seen at public aquariums as they are easy to care for in the proper water conditions.
