Winter in Seward, Alaska is fairly mild with maritime climates which range from 17 to 38 degrees during the winter and 49 to 63 during the summer. The climate is effected by the surrounding mountains and ocean which can bring in a fair amount of wind and rain, making winter cold and wet.
When the temperatures stay well below zero, many of the housetop roofs are adorned with a mass of long icicles. As the winter sun appears, the sunlight sparkles off the icicles making them appear as if they are illuminated as a small drip occasionally falls as they melt in the warmth creating a beautiful winter picture.
