The Alaska Railroad spans a distance of 470 miles starting at Seward, Alaska until it reaches the city of Fairbanks. Two passenger trains are available during the summer, one which travels from Fairbanks to Anchorage and the other between Anchorage and Seward. The scenery while aboard the train is spectacular, especially near the end of summer when the trees begin to change into their Autumn shades as the railroad winds through the beautiful and rugged Alaskan landscape.
In this picture, the Seward Highway is located above the railroad as the train passes by the coastal shores of Turnagain Arm below. The Alaska Railroad train has large windows for passengers to enjoy the scenery as well as comfortable seats, cars for dining in and convenient restrooms. For those who prefer privacy instead of traveling on the standard Alaska Railroad train cars, a private dome car can be arranged or the newest addition of the Goldstar dome service.
Two different routes requiring traveling by car, the Parks and Seward Highways in Alaska take you away from the coastal shores where the railroad travels giving visitors different views of the scenery of Alaska.
