Fishing buoys adorn the surface of the water in Cook Inlet in the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska, USA where a set net has been released. Trapped in the net in the shallow waters, is a large salmon which will be cut free by the fishermen.
Set net fishing originated many years ago in the 1800's with traps which were built out of stakes and strong wire. These traps eventually became illegal and the equipment used in set net fishing was altered to the nets used today. All the fishermen seen set net fishing in the Cook Inlet now use these large nets and cork lines to capture the salmon.
