The Rockefeller Center located in the middle of Midtown Manhattan, New York was built by the Rockefeller family and is a complex of 19 commercial buildings. This area of the Rockefeller Center is home to the bronze glided statue of the Greek legend of the Titan Prometheus which sits into the sunken plaza. The Prometheus statue was created by Paul Manship, one which he felt was not one of his better masterpieces.
Above the statue on the street level viewing area, crowds of people admire Prometheus amongst the blend of about 200 flagpoles. The flags are different throughout the year, some being the United Nations members flags, the flags of the US and their territories or seasonal or decorative flags displayed on special days.
In front of the Prometheus Statue is the world renowned ice skating rink which visitors to New York find to be the ultimate New York winter experience. A place where friends and family can enjoy the outdoor activities of winter. Public skating, parties and special events take place on this rink and many find the viewing deck above to be one of the best places at the Rockefeller Center to watch the show.
This is just one area of the Rockefeller Center located between 47th and 50th Streets and 5th and 7th Avenues in Manhattan, New York.
