Spring is always a beautiful time of year when birds begin to chirp, pull worms from the ground and begin to collect different items to build a nest. This Robin sits peacefully amongst the tree branches in its nest which is surrounded by green leaves keeping the birds out of the direct sunlight.
The nest a Robin builds is made from long coarse grass, twigs, paper and feathers and is packed with mud and then made softer with grass and a variety of soft materials. The female Robin will build its nest anywhere from 5 to 15 feet above the ground in tree branches or dense bush where she will lay her eggs.
There are usually three different groups of eggs between April and June and each time a different brood is laid, a new nest is built. There are about 3 to 5 eggs each time which are light blue in color and are incubated for approximately 14 days by the female Robin. The wings on a juvenile Robin will progress very quickly allowing the birds to be able to fly fairly well after about two weeks.
The male Robin will protect the chicks from any predators and dive bomb them if they come anywhere near the nest.
