The riverside is adorned with a pink display of blossoming fireweed flowers as the Lowe River winds its way around the picturesque scenery in the wilderness of Valdez, Alaska. During the summer sunset hours, the mountain peaks sparkle as they hold onto their scattered snow patches as low lying clouds gently float by.
Fireweed is probably the most common plant seen growing around Alaska and during the summer months, the Valdez landscape along the rivers is always decorated with pink fireweed flowers. One known legend in Alaska is that when the fireweed turns to cotton, the onset of another Alaskan winter is six weeks away.
