A Red Fox balances on the rocky banks of a river in the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska, USA scanning the surface for salmon. Fishing for a salmon is not a daily task for the Red Fox as they feed mainly on insects, small mammals, fruit and birds with the salmon being a delicacy.
When the salmon are running up river, the playful characteristics of a Red Fox are seen while these animals are fishing. As the salmon leap, the fox will watch the fish below the surface of the water until it is ready for the attack.
A very crafty and cunning animal, the Red Fox loves to run and pounce and enjoys playing with its food, especially the likes of a good salmon. Usually a lone hunter, the Red Fox does not require a great deal of food as their stomachs are fairly small for their size. The fishing games the Red Fox plays in the river seems to be a joy instead of a long, tiring task.
