A mother Polar Bear finds a good meal for her cubs from a Bowhead Whale carcass on the beach along the Beaufort Sea which has been carved by the people of the Inupiat Village of Katovik, Alaska. Young Polar Bears must be taught their hunting skills very early in life in order to prepare themselves for their adult years.
Seals are the main food source for Polar Bears, but when seals can not be found, Polar Bears will eat walrus, beluga whales or short-legged reindeer. Snacks include birds, bird eggs, kelp and of course beached whales. The only enemy the Polar Bears have is human hunters and on occasion they may have confrontations with other bears.
