The grey sky above the Hudson Bay in Churchill, Manitoba in Canada, brings on a winter snowfall, a favorite time for a Polar Bear. The colder the climate gets around Churchill and the more snow that falls, keeps a Polar Bear happy as he has waited patiently for this winter weather.
The ice build up along the Hudson Bay is a means of survival for a Polar Bear so that he can make his way to his main source of food, the Ringed Seals. The coloring of the fur on the Polar Bear provides excellent camouflage during the winter, especially when a real winter blizzard sets in.
There are days along the shores of the Hudson Bay when the snowfall is thick and the wind whips across the coastline creating extremely cold temperatures. This can cause whiteouts and very limited visibility, making it hard for bear watching tourists to see the Polar Bears in their natural environment.
