A Polar Bear will spend many hours sleeping throughout the day from June through to November as they need to conserve their energy for the winter months when the Hudson Bay freezes over and ringed seals are easy to catch. During the summer, a Polar Bear will not eat a great deal unless they venture across a dead seal or bird and sleeping becomes one of their main activities.
Tourists to the area who come to view the Polar Bear in its natural environment will find many sleeping across the landscape if winter has not yet set in. As the colder temperatures begin to take over in the Churchill Wildlife Management Area, the Polar Bears become more active and begin to seek out their meals along the Hudson Bay coastline.
