A mother Polar Bear minds her own business while her cub bites the loose fur around her neck in their natural environment in the Churchill Wildlife Management Area in Churchill, Manitoba. Bonding moments between the mother Polar Bear and her young is frequently seen for the first two or three years of the cub's life as family closeness is important to survival. After this time, the cub has become old enough to fend for itself and puts to work everything which has been taught by the mother Polar Bear.
Before this time period is up, the mother will protect her cub and take any possible action which be needed to ensure its safety. Bear watching in the Churchill Wildlife Management Area in Manitoba, should be done from inside the tundra buggies or vehicles, as no one should attempt fate and interrupt the family closeness of a mother and her cub(s).
