After a Bowhead Whale has been harpooned and butchered for its blubber by members of an Inupiat village in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska, a Polar Bear and a seagull clean up the remains from the carcass. As the Polar Bear peers over the top of the skull of the Bowhead Whale, a seagull tries to make his point but will not win the battle, especially if the Polar Bear is extremely hungry.
A Polar Bear prefers his own meal of ringed seal, but before the Beaufort Sea freezes and icebergs are formed and after the cold winter months, a Polar Bear will scour the area for any source of food. To see Polar Bears congregating around whale harvest sites is not uncommon especially near the villages of Kaktovik, Barrow and Cross Island along the coastal shores of the Beaufort Sea.
