The Parks Highway spans a distance of 576 kilometers between Anchorage and Fairbanks, Alaska where every automobile traveling this route will pass through some of the most rugged terrain. Parks Highway is known to be the best year round road found in Alaska with some of the most breathtaking scenery like the snow covered peaks of Mt. McKinley.
Over 40 bridges are found along the Parks Highway and the scenery, which is well beyond expectations, takes visitors by surprise, especially around Mt. McKinley. Mt. McKinley is the tallest peak found in Alaska and at around the 134.5 mile mark along the highway, just after entering Denali State Park, the best view is found.
The highway was completed in 1971 and was known as the Anchorage-Fairbanks Highway, but in 1975, the name of George Parks Highway or Parks Highway was made official.
