The entire area around the Kenai River in the Kenai Peninsula, Alaska is blanketed in pink hues as the sunset lighting single outs a couple of idle fishing boats. The water is like a sheet of glass, displaying the reflections of the fishing boat on the surface of the water as the shape of Mt. Redoubt, an active volcano, is highlighted in the backdrop.
Although Mt. Redoubt is only silhouetted in the sunset lighting, the volcano stands at a height of about 9,000 feet. The volcano has erupted in past years, one in 1902 and 1966 and the largest one which happened in 1989. The volcano recently erupted on March 22, 2009, spewing ash cloud to at least a height of 60,000 feet above sea level.
Sunset is a very tranquil and beautiful time of day in the Kenai Peninsula where the Kenai River flows for 82 miles. Many fishermen come here as various types of salmon use this river as part of their migration route.
