A scenic aerial picture of the primary steaming volcanic cone atop Mount Spurr in Alaska, USA and the landscape surrounding it. The snow blankets the rugged mountain range which extends for miles across the region and when Mount Spurr erupted in 1992, the volcanic ash covered the city of Anchorage, Alaska located 81 miles away.
Mount Spurr is a statovolcano which has two vents, the summit and Crater Peak. The main summit has remained quiet for more than 10,000 years but Crater Peak seen in this aerial picture, is always showing some signs of activity and is closely monitored by scientists.
Mount Spurr reaches an elevation of 11,070 feet and is visible across the skyline for 78 miles west of Anchorage, Alaska in the USA. An aerial picture provides a beautiful view of the area as the steam slowly emerges from its peak.
