Some of the most beautiful landscape in the Chugach National Forest in Alaska, USA can only be viewed while chartering a scenic flight tour. This aerial picture of Mount Gilbert displays the rough terrain across the Chugach National Forest still blanketed with ice and snow.
Mount Gilbert is a volcano in the eastern region of the Aleutian Islands which showed some active fumaroles in the 1900's a short distance from the summit. The elevation of the summit of Mount Gilbert is 2,684 feet, hosting a steep incline for those who have or are considering to climb this peak, especially on the northern flank. This area of Mount Gilbert has been heavily eroded while the southern flank has only been dissected a little.
Steam plumes were often seen atop Mount Gilbert before 1948 but the activity seems to have ceased except for the odd sighting on and off. An aerial view allows visitors to see the entire region around Mount Gilbert and the Chugach National Forest without having to trek through a landscape of snow.
