After recently feeding on a harvested Bowhead Whale, a mother Polar Bear stays close to her two cubs on the beach along the North Slope of Alaska in the USA. A soft pinkish lighting creates a unique background for this Polar Bear family who stop in their tracks to see where the unusual sounds are coming from.
The North Slope in Alaska, USA spans along the coastal regions of the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas where Eskimo villages still hunt for their food. This is why the Polar Bears congregate here as they feed on these whales during the fall when the subsistence harvest takes place. The bears are extremely hungry as they await the freezing of the North Slope and hunt their favorite meal of ringed seals.
This mother Polar Bear will protect her two cubs for the first few years of their life and teach them the tricks to survival in the Alaskan wilderness. Until this time, the mother will stay within a close proximity of her two cubs and spend hours showing them everything she knows to ensure they have a strong start when they begin to travel alone.
