An Autumn snowstorm blows across the Arctic tundra in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska, USA, but this does not seem to make any difference to a large musk ox bull. As he looks up while checking out the tundra landscape, it gave us a prime opportunity to take his picture.
As winter nears, the musk ox begins to grow a thick undercoat of soft brown fur which will soon be overtaken by a long coat of shaggy hair for warmth. With large horns which curve downwards towards its face, pointing outwards at the tips, the musk ox will use these sharp tools against any enemies if needed.
