The Lace Cactus is a plant which is fairly easy to grow and needs very little care except for full sun and a little water for the beautiful pink flowers to bloom. The flowers reach between 2 and 4 inches across and 2 to 5 inches in height with white hairs and spines and a fruit which grows to be about 0.8 to 1.2 inches in diameter.
Across the landscape in Texas Hill Country in Comfort, Texas, the Lace Cactus blooms in mid spring and visitors to the area should be cautioned not to touch these plants. They have very sharp edges, each one having between 10 to 36 slender spines.
The sight of a Lace Cactus does not catch the eye until the pink flowers emerge. The wildflowers are found to grow in northwestern Texas, central and western Oklahoma, southeastern Colorado, eastern New Mexico and northern Mexico.
