The massive tidewater face of Barry Glacier, one which can be calving at any given time, towers above the ice covered waters of Prince William Sound in Alaska, USA. A group of kayakers watching the glacier calving keep their distance as these large ice pieces can easily jeopardize people's lives.
As the temperatures warm up during the summer months, the glacier walls are seen calving on a fairly regular basis and kayakers should be on guard during their travels. As the ice hits the water, often creating quite a disturbance in the water if the iceberg is large enough, and the thundering noise which can be heard for miles, is quite a spectacular act of nature.
Kayaking adventures in Prince William Sound vary in length and embarking on the longer tours allows kayakers to fully explore the glacier landscape. Even though summer brings some incredible days to Prince William Sound, appropriate clothing is needed for kayaking as the temperatures can quickly change.
