The blossoming Indian Paintbrush in Mt. Rainier National Park in Washington, USA show off their brilliant red colors as they blossom across the wilderness landscape. This plant is a member of the figwort family and prefers to flourish in mid to high elevations in the depths of the forests, along the roadsides or on the slopes of hills or mountains.
The flowers on the Indian Paintbrush appear at their best between April and July and blossom in a large, fan shape of bright reddish/orange hues. Flowering on the stem tops in dense spikes, they hide the true tiny greenish/yellow flowers. Stems reach approximately 40 centimeters in height with basal leaves in roseette, oblanceolate which grow to be at least 10 centimeters in length and 2 centimeters wide.
These flowers thrive in fairly moist soil which drains well and the landscape of Mt. Rainier National Park is ideal for the Indian Paintbrush flowers to blossom to their fullest. Their brilliant colors highlight the landscape of the park, a plant which received its name as the tops appear as if they have been dipped in red paint.
