The landscape is blanketed in snow and ice, the ideal conditions for competitors partaking in the Iditarod Sled Dog Race held in Alaska, USA. As the beautiful sunset hues span the sky above the Bering Sea coast near Unalakleet, Alaska, a musher and his sled dog team surges forward.
Unalakleet, along the Bering Sea coast, is one of the 25 checkpoints during the Iditarod Sled Dog Race which is approximately 260 miles away from the finish line in Nome, Alaska. Every year, a prize is awarded to the first musher to reach Unalakleet which consists of $2,500 in gold nuggets and an award named the "Gold Coast".
Every day is a challenge for the musher and his team during the Iditarod, but a sunset across the winter landscape makes one appreciate the beauty of Alaska.
