A baby Harbor Seal reunites with its mother atop a melting iceberg floating in the beautiful blue colored waters off Alaska, USA. The mother Harbor Seal is kissing her young and sniffing her scent which is how the adult ensures that this is her own pup.
Harbor seals are usually found not more than 20 kilometers offshore and give birth to a single pup along the coastal shores. The pup is very well developed when born and can swim and dive within hours after its birth, being very dependent on its mother for the first 3 to 4 weeks when they feed from their mother's rich milk.
By the end of this time, the Harbor Seals have doubled in weight and grow to be about 70 to 170 kilograms if males and 50 to 150 kilograms when females. Kissing is commonly seen during their first month as the mother will make short feeding trips while nursing making the connection special each time she returns.
As the adult Harbor Seal begins to wean her pup, they learn to find different areas to keep safe, such as an iceberg or along the rocky coastline.
