Alaska is home to an annual ice art competition and exhibition which invites artists from around the world to create their ice statues. What used to be a one week celebration with 16 teams participating, has now grown to 75 teams competing with the event lasting a month.

Many ice carving competitions are found throughout Alaska but none are quite as extravagant as the World Ice Art Championships held in Fairbanks. Some of this artwork is created from a single block of ice while the larger statues use multiply blocks of ice.
