Collecting nectar on beautiful pink blossoms in Texas Hill Country in Comfort, Texas, a honey bee busily continues while we snap his picture. The honey bee has a second stomach where he stores the nectar which he takes back to the hive. The worker bees wait for their return and removes the nectar, one of the many routines needed in a honey bee colony.
The nectar or pollen is what the honey bee uses to make honey and will drink as much as possible from one single blossom. When collecting nectar, the honey bee uses its tongue to suck it up and when collecting pollen, the sacks on their hind legs are used to store the pollen.
This picture shows the three separate sections on the body of a honey bee. The head where the eyes, feelers and tongue are located, the thorax or middle section and the end section known as the abdomen. Their entire body is hairy except for the abdomen and the thorax has six legs and two wings.
The honey bee will reside in any regions where they can find flowers to feed on like these beautiful pink blossoms. Spring is a favorite season for the bees as this is when the blossoms begin to appear.
