The Puu OO is a cinder/spatter cone shaped volcano on the Big Island, also named Hawaii, which has been erupting on and off since 1983 and this photo was taking during the night hours. The glow from the lava as the volcano erupts is fascinating to watch but getting to close to this extremely hot area can be very dangerous. The coastal highway was closed in 1987 as the volcano is one of the longest-lived eruptions which still continues today.
