Harpooned Bowhead Whale Frozen Chukchi Sea

A harpooned Bowhead Whale lies motionless in the frozen pieces of ice floating on the surface of the Chukchi Sea near Barrow, Alaska.

Harpooning whales is what the Eskimos in Alaska find to be part of their culture and tradition while other people find this behavior to be viscous and cruel. Bowhead Whales have been hunted and harpooned for thousand of years and under regulation, the Eskimo villages in Alaska are still allowed to perform these rituals.
