One way to explore and experience the geology, cultural history of the gold rush, the wildlife and scenery of the Yukon Charley Rivers National Preserve in Alaska, USA, is to partake in a guided rafting trip. Two people sit peacefully at the front of the raft enjoying the beauty of the area while an experienced rafter keeps hold of the rein while traveling down the Yukon Charley Rivers.
Guided raft trips can start in the open valley where the tundra covered peaks tower approximately 6,000 feet above the river. The valley narrows and the river becomes violent as it picks up speed flowing quickly past the cliffs and bluffs until reaching the Yukon Valley. Here the Yukon Charley Rivers slow considerably and the rafting trip loses its adrenaline rush but provides a peaceful journey where one can enjoy the scenery.
Eventually the rafting trip continues onto the Yukon River, where the wildlife becomes more abundant as they are seen along the river banks. Rapids appear throughout the guided rafting trip as the rivers flow for over a 100 miles through the Alaskan landscape.
Not all the rafting trips will run the entire length of the Yukon Charley Rivers throughout this national preserve, as some visitors like to experience the calmer areas of the river and enjoy the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness.
