While hiking along a trail in the Chugach National Forest on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska, USA, visitors can expect to share the wilderness with various species of wildlife. Along this trail, a Grizzly Bear comes up the banks from the Russian River just as a visitor crosses over the bridge.
Miles of trails run along the Russian River and a majority of the time when humans cross paths with a bear, the bear will go about his business and continue on. Approximately 100,000 fishermen visit the Russian River on a yearly basis and Grizzly Bear, Black Bear and Brown Bear are often seen fishing within a close proximity of these humans.
The Russian River on the Kenai Peninsula is on National Forest Land and is managed by the US Forest Service which runs a campground with 83 sites. Visitors can fish in the clean waters of the Russian River where an abundance of salmon run, but first and foremost, people must be aware that bears also frequent the area for their intake of food.
When touring the Russian River trails on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska, always remember that you are on Grizzly Bear turf and respecting their space is important. Keep your distance, never surprise a bear, make noise when you are bushwhacking off the trails and never run away as they may mistake you for prey.
