When a pack of Gray Wolves encounters a Grizzly Bear, the outcome is usually dealt with calmly as it becomes a mutual avoidance by both parties. Problems arise when there is a baby in the mix or they are trying to defend their food as the wolves will linger around waiting for their chance to move in.
It is very rare that a Grizzly Bear will be enticed to move away from his food by a pack of wolves and if need be, the bear will chase them away. Wolves can outrun a Grizzly so a scare tactic by the Grizzly Bear is usually enough to deter the Gray Wolves until he has finished with his meal. Grizzly Bears and Gray Wolves have co-existed for many years but in recent years, there have been many more sightings of the two species interacting.
