Along the beach on the shores of the North Slope of Alaska, USA, Polar Bears congregate to feed on the carcass of a Gray Whale. Hundreds of Glaucous Gulls try to move in on the feeding grounds making the Polar Bears very aggressive towards these birds circling around them.
These gulls are large and powerful especially when in a massive flock, but not enough to scare off the Polar Bears as they could easily demolish one of these birds with one swat from their enormous paws. Glaucous Gulls are scavengers and seek out small prey such as birds and will try their best to move in when a carcass of a whale has been left behind on a beach.
The amount of Polar Bears, Brown Bears and Grizzlies seen feeding on remains of a harvested whale is rapidly increasing on the North Slope of Alaska. Climate change in the Arctic is one of the main reasons the Polars Bears are congregating on the shores but they need the food to survive while awaiting the colder Arctic temperatures.
The Polar Bears have very little fear as they are one of the largest meat eating animals left in the world and a flock of gulls is the least of their problems. If a Grizzly Bear moves into the area, it is a possibility that the Polar Bears will move on to another location until safe to return to the carcass of the Gray Whale.
