Gold Dredge No. 8 in Fairbanks, Alaska worked very hard in the gold mining days when prospectors found millions of ounces of gold in the Alaskan landscape. Today, when visitors tour Gold Dredge No. 8, they are able to see how this old gold panning equipment helped the miners extract the gold. The dredge started operating in 1928 and was shut down in 1959.
Guided tours are available where you are taken through the dredge and then afterwards, you can partake in a little gold panning. Throughout the building, there are prehistoric bones on display, a cafe to enjoy lunch and a gift shop where you can buy unique souvenirs.
