Each year at the Alaska State Fair in the town of Palmer, the giant cabbage contest takes place and people work hard all year to try and grow the biggest cabbage for the weigh in. This tradition begain in 1941 and continues to this day with other monster vegetables on display like broccoli, celery, mushrooms, pumpkins, squash, watermelons and sunflowers.
