A pose done by this Gadwall is a common sight when the duck is stretching, often seen when the Gadwall is in the warmth of the sun during the spring season in Anchorage, Alaska. Across the surface of the water, a mirror image of the Gadwall and his pose are created in the light of the sun.
The Gadwall is a common species of duck belonging to the Anatidae family growing to about 18-22 inches in length with females weighing about 30 ounces and males being slightly larger at 35 ounces. In the non-breeding season, both the female and male Gadwall are similar in color.
After the duck emerges from the water where it dabbles for plant food with its head submerged, it likes to dry, pose and rest in various places around the shallow waters. Anchorage, Alaska is one region the Gadwell duck is found but it likes to spend its winters from coastal Alaska, south into Central America, east into Idaho, Kansas, Ohio, Virginia and then south to Central America.
