A Silversword begins flowering on the volcanic landscape in Haleakala National Park in Maui, USA where it will produce maroon ray flowers all the way up its stalk in June or July. The Silversword is considered a threatened species of plant which is only found on the island of Maui and the government has protected and monitored it since the early 1900's.
