A female Eastern Pondhawk Dragonfly perches itself on a twig in Texas Hill Country in Comfort, Texas where it shows off its beautiful green jacket, transparent wings and darker areas on its abdomen. The male Eastern Pondhawk is pale blue in color with a green face but both species will grow to be about 2 inches in length and are generally found in fields near ponds. Sitting below the Eastern Pondhawk, another species of dragonfly decides to join in.

A dragonfly has incredible eyesight consisting of nearly 30,000 facets, with each one being a light sensing organ. Some dragonflies can fly up to speeds of between 30 and 60 kilometers, making them one of the fastest known insects. The range in which the Eastern Pondhawk is mostly found is throughout the Eastern section of the United States, but they have made themselves known west through to Texas.
