As tourists hike across the landscape in Kenai Fiords National Park in Seward, Alaska, they arrive at the toe of Exit Glacier. Crevasses adorned in blue coloring make up the slopes of Exit Glacier while the top is brown in color, typical of the glaciers of Alaska.
Originating from the Harding Icefield in the Kenai Mountains, Exit Glacier was named as it was the exit for the first known crossing of the Harding Icefield. Tourists can drive up to the glacier in Kenai Fiords National Park where there are numerous hiking trails leading to the terminus of Exit Glacier.
The glacier is located in the valley and covers an area of 4 miles with its terminus being at the Moraine River. As winter arrives, the road into Exit Glacier is closed to cars but winter recreational vehicles are still admitted into the area.
Exit Glacier is one which is visited regularly due to its easy access but is still one of the smaller glaciers of the Harding Icefields. Guided tours are available for those who want to learn the history of Exit Glacier and Kenai Fiords National Park.
