The Autumn foliage adorns both sides of the Elliott Highway where long, steep hills wind through the wilderness of Alaska, USA. The Elliott Highway was completed in 1959 and spans 152 miles from Fox, Alaska to Manley Hot Springs.
Eighty miles before reaching Manley Hot Springs, the highway has an unpaved surface often making winter driving conditions treacherous. The rest of the Elliott Highway is paved and is surrounded by amazing scenery with Autumn being one of the prettiest times of year to travel this region.
It is wise for people traveling the Elliott Highway to fuel up, have snacks on hand and carry supplies in case of an emergency as this is a desolate highway. There is a small town of approximately 25 residents known as Livengood at mile 71 of the Elliott Highway and another one called Minto with a population of about 260 at mile 110.
