Every year, usually in September, an event known as the "Denali Road Lottery" is held for a few days which allows motorists with special permits to tour amongst the Autumn colors of this wilderness landscape. Autumn only lasts for a short period of time in Denali National Park where a variety of shrubs, boreal forest trees and plants mix together in vibrant colors.
Another bonus of touring Denali National Park is crossing paths with various species of wildlife such as these Dall Sheep rams. As people stand about a group of Dall Sheep rams, most of the animals continue about their business while two on top of the hill pose for the camera.
Dall Sheep rams have thick horns which curl while the horns on the females are shorter, thinner and only have a slight curve making it easy to distinguish between the two. These animals love the mix of alpine ridges, meadows and steep, rocky slopes where they can stay alert and have a quick escape route if any of their predators like bears, golden eagles, coyotes or wolves are in the area.
