Not only is the scenery beautiful when traveling around Kenai Fiords National Park in Alaska, USA but when aboard a boat tour, visitors can enjoy the beauty of the wildlife which resides in these waters. Here visitors on a small boat tour can enjoy the Dall's Porpoises surfing in the wake, an activity these animals love to partake in.
Dall's Porpoises are the fastest of all the small cetaceans, reaching up to speeds of 55 kilometers per hour. The tour boat needs to be traveling at a good speed or the porpoises will lose interest and continuing surfing elsewhere.
The color on the Dall's Porpoises makes them easy to distinguish from other porpoises or dolphins as their body is a dark grey to black with white patches on their flank, similar to that of an Orca. These animals can grow to be about 230 centimeters in length and weigh between 130 to 200 kilograms.
The boat tours leave from Seward, Alaska and other types of wildlife besides the Dall's Porpoises seen in these waters are Steller Sea Lions, Sea Otters, Harbor Seals, Humpback Whales, Killer Whales, Gray Whales and Minke Whales.
Model Release/ Visitors to Kenai Fiords are treated to up-close views of Dall's porpoise as they bow-ride on a small tour boat
